▲ The Wolfhounds
The Wolfhounds formed in Romford in 1985 and signed to the Pink label in 1986 with their First EP 'Cut The Cake' being well enough received for the NME to include them on the now legendary C86 compilation album.
After four albums and a plethora of singles they split up in 1990.
The Wolfhounds reformed in 2005 to play a gig to celebrate the 20th anniversary of releasing 'Cut The Cake' and subsequently Bob Stanley from Saint Etienne asked them to play at the ICA a year later to celebrate 20 years of C86.
They have just released the excellent new Skullface EP which has received a lot of airplay on BBC 6 Music and we are very excited to have them play this intimate show for us, as we love 'em!
▲ Blak Magik Society
Blak Magik Society - A band for people who are sick and tired of getting pushed around. For people who are out to fuck the system, give it to the man and bang those motherfuckers up against the wall. For the movers, the shakers, the midnight love makers. The rebel rousers who wear tight trousers. The jokers, the smokers and the fire stokers.
They are having their launch party for their debut single Our Time (Keep It Heavy) tonight. It's out on July 16th and it's very very good.
▲ Monster Island
Monster Island are a slow motion branding disaster, formed in the fall of 2006, only 17 years after the fall of the berlin wall. They fell together after their previous band had fallen apart, (not the fault of anyone in particular). The following fall they fell out with their bassist but a new one fell into place after what seemed like fuckall time. After a fallow first year their first fall-p was released in the fallowing year. It was called Sunken Public Falls and a single falled surface fall park slash soap falltory was falleased the fallt of the fallowfall fall. The next fallease was falled The Fall and garnered fall refalls from many falters. The fall fall fall was falled the fall fall and the fall fall fall fall by many as fall fall Andy Falkous eating falafel with John Cooper Fall and the falls falled into falbuously fall like a falling falcon falters fall fall fall in the fall of fall from fallowfield fall the way to fall fall the fall but not the fall at the fall time fall fall fall Mark E Fall fall fall fall fall fall fall fall fall fall fall fall fall fall fall fall f all fall fall fall fall. Fall. (Monster Island wrote this..)
Monster Island sound a bit like The Fall and they are brilliant! (Idle Fret wrote this...)
Bentcousin are from the seaside, the place we do like to be beside, until they decided they needed to 'live by da river'. Fronted by Twins, Pat and Amelia, they make cutecore, a sound they describe as 'The Sex Pistols meeting Wham outside of Iceland'
The five piece started up last summer and have gathered a growing reputation over the last few months. The thing that makes the band stand out, apart from Amelia's big hair and Pat's Ivy League good looks, is how they create their songs. They dream them. Big sis Amelia explains 'as Twins we regularly have joint dreams, these give us the ideas and tunes for our songs, we then simply translate our dreams into reality'. Pat, the shyer younger brother whispers, 'our uncle helps too, and sometimes his interventions can take the song in a direction we never dreamed of......' he stifles a giggle.
Go and see Bentcousin, they are a breath of fresh air.
▲ Dean Leggett from Bob, label mates to The Wolfhounds in '86, will be playing great records from the C86 era.
